Can you Open Keynote in Google Slides? [The EASIEST Way]

In today’s day and age, there are so many software and application that one can use for making presentations. Apple’s Keynote and Google’s Google Slides are just among the popular few, along with Microsoft’s PowerPoint.

When different people are using different applications on their laptops/computers, it becomes essential that each of these presentation file types be convenient to convert from one to the other.

You cannot open a Keynote presentation directly in Google Slides. To open a Keynote presentation in Google Slides, you will first need to convert it into a PowerPoint file (PPT or PPTX). Once this is done, you can upload the converted file in your Google Drive and open it with Google Slides.

In this article, I will show you how to carry out this process in a step-by-step manner with images. So, make sure to check out the complete article to get some additional tips!

1. Can You Open Keynote in Google Slides?

You cannot open a Keynote presentation in Google Slides. Unfortunately, Google Slides cannot open any presentation formats except PowerPoint (.pptx). To open a Keynote in Google Slides, you have first to convert the Keynote presentation into a Microsoft PowerPoint file.

2. How to Convert Keynote to Google Slides?

Using the “CloudConvert” application in Google Drive, you can convert a Keynote presentation to Google Slides. To do so, you have to first upload the Keynote file into your Google Drive. Then follow the 3 simple steps.

Step-1: Click on the “Open with” option

In your Google Drive, you have to first “Right Click” on the Keynote file. In the right-click menu, click on the “Open with” option.

Step-2: Click on the “CloudConvert” option

The next step is to click on the “CloudConvert” option in the pop-up menu by the “Open with” option in the right-click menu. This will open the file conversion page.

Step-3: Click on the “Convert” button

In the dropdown box on the file conversion page, you have to now click on the “.pptx” option. Then click on the “Save output files to Google Drive” option. Finally, all you have to do is click on the “Convert” button to convert the Keynote file to a Google Slides presentation.

Alternatively, you can also open the Keynote file in Keynote. Then, click on the “File” tab. From the dropdown that appears, click on the “Export to” option and select “PowerPoint”. Then, click “Next”. Finally, browse to a location on your computer to save the file, name the file, and click “Export”.

This is an easier way to have the PPTx version of your Keynote file. You can then import this file to your Google Slides using the steps mentioned in the following section.

3. How to Import Keynote into Google Slides?

In Google Slides, you cannot import a Keynote presentation. To import a Keynote presentation, you have to first convert it to a Microsoft PowerPoint file. To import an Apple Keynote presentation into Google Slides, follow the 8 easy steps.

Step-1: Click on the “File” tab

The first step is to open the Apple Keynote presentation that you want to import to Google Slides. Then click on the “File” tab in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Step-2: Click on the “PowerPoint” option

In the dropdown menu under the “File” tab in Keynote, click on the “Export To” option. Then click on the “PowerPoint” option in the pop-up menu by the “Export To” option. This will open the “Export Your Presentation”dialog box. 

Step-3: Click on the “Next” button

In the “Export Your Presentation” dialog box, click on the “PowerPoint” option. Then all you have to do is click on the “Next” button at the bottom of the “Export Your Presentation” dialog box. This will open a pop-up dialog at the top of the screen.

Step-4: Click on the “Export” button

In the pop-up dialog at the top of the screen, click on the “Save As” box and type in a title for the presentation file. You can also click on the “Where” box to select the location where the PowerPoint presentation file will be saved.

Finally, click on the “Export” button at the bottom of the pop-up dialog to export the Keynote presentation to Microsoft PowerPoint.

Step-5: Click on the “File” menu

The next step is to open a blank Google Slides presentation to import the Keynote slides. In the menu bar located at the top of the screen, click on the “File” menu.

Step-6: Click on the “Import slides” option

In the “File” dropdown menu, click on the “Import slides” option. This will open the “Import slides” dialog box.

Step-7: Click on the “Upload” option

At the top of the “Import slides” dialog box, click on the “Upload” tab. Now you can drag and drop the Apple Keynote presentation that has been converted to a Microsoft PowerPoint file. You can also click on the “Select a file from your device” button and select the presentation file.

Step-8: Click on the “Import slides” button

Now all you have to do is select the slides from the Keynote presentation that you want to import to the Google Slides presentation.

You can click on the “All” option in the “Select slides” section at the top right corner of the “Import slides” dialog box to select all the slides at once. Then click on the “Import slides” button at the bottom of the dialog box to import the Keynote presentation to Google Slides.

4. How to Edit Keynote in Google Slides?

To open a Keynote presentation in Google Slides, you have to first convert it to Google Slides. Once you have converted the Keynote presentation, you can edit it like any other Google Slides presentation.

All you have to do is use the editing features available in the menu bar and the toolbar located at the top of the screen to edit the Keynote presentation in Google Slides.

5. How to Convert Google Slides to Keynote?

You cannot download a Google Slides presentation as a Keynote presentation. However, you can download it as a PowerPoint file and then convert it. I’ve covered this in full detail in my other article on how to convert Google Slides to Keynote. Be sure to check that out as well.

Meanwhile, here are the brief steps on how to convert your Google Slides to Keynote.

Step-1: Click on the “File” menu

The first step is to open the Google Slides presentation that you want to convert to Keynote. Then click on the “File” tab which is the first tab in the menu bar located at the top of the screen.

Step-2: Click on the “Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx)” option

In the “File” dropdown menu, click on the “Download” option. Then click on the “Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx)” option in the pop-up menu by the “Download” option.

Step-3: Click on the “File” tab

The next step is to open a blank file in Keynote. At the top of the screen, click on the “File” tab. In the dropdown list under the “File” tab, click on the “Open” option. This will open the file browser window.

Step-4: Click on the “Open” button

In the file browser window, select the Google Slides presentation that you have downloaded as a Microsoft PowerPoint file. Then all you have to do is click on the “Open” button at the bottom of the window. This will open the PowerPoint presentation automatically converted to Keynote.

Step-5: Fix any errors

Finally, all you have to do is fix the error messages that will appear at the top of the screen. You may have to replace some fonts that are not available in Keynote. Besides, the charts in Google Slides will be converted to shapes and lines, so you may have to adjust those as well.
